A quick report tonight as we are tired as can be.
The Friends group departed our hotel this morning at 9:00 a.m. to be ready for an 11:45 a.m. flight
from Cairo to Sharm El Sheik (on the Sinai Peninsula). We made it to the airport with little worry
and were checked in, ready to board by 10:40 a.m. Alas, the flight was delayed and we didn't leave
until after 2:30. That messed up our afternoon; we were to have some time at our resort, then head
to the hills for a dinner with the Bedouins, the nomadic tribe(s) which live in the desert near here.
Suffice to say, our hotel is beautiful, however the sun was lowering in the sky when we arrived. Shortly
thereafter, we departed for a 45 minute trip into the mountains. There has been a good deal of rain here
(quite unusual for the desert in this area) and many of the sections of the paved road up the hill were
washed out with sand covering the pavement, rocks strewn about and so on. This slowed us a bit
Finally, however, we made the Bedouin Camp and were promptly loaded upon camels for a fifteen
minute ride to the tents where we were to have dinner. Camels in the dark. Now THAT was fun. :-)
Had we not been so tired, this would have been even more fun.........but.........knowing that we now have
to board the bus by 6 a.m. to get to St. Catherine's Monastery AND that those who are climbing Mt Sinai
tonight leave (have left) already, well, we were ready to get home. Dinner was great - the people were
great - we were simply not has great as we usually are..........
